Why do spreadsheet cells delete when you press enter?

Needs Answer

Using Version 6 on the desktop - not webbased version of Geogebra.

Multiple students are encountering the same issue when entering or modifying data in a cell. They type the word or numbers press enter and the cell becomes empty again. Is there anyway to address this problem?

I'm sorry, but cannot reproduce your issue (GeoGebra v.6.0.438 - Windows 10)

Which is your OS?

Can you upload a short video showing the issue?

I will try to capture a video when it happens again - I can't reproduce it right now either. Also, sometimes when we try to edit text and press enter it reverts to the previous text entry. I.E. trying to correct a typo.

Hi

It doesn't happen when you enter a word or a number

It happens when you enter both (for exemple t2) or special characters (for exemple t; or "t or...(but not t" or I'd))

So.. it means your input is not correct..

try this:

in A1 type 3

in A2 type =2*A1

then in A1 type any word you want. the input can be not correct but A2 is OK and A1 blank

try in ver 5. It is OK; A1 is 3 still

So.. it means your input is not correct..

for a correct answer (for text), you have to write your text with ""

(for example "t2" or "t;", ...)

accord, but ver5 has better behaviour

A1 continues being 3 if you type in A3 =3 A1 then A3=9

n A1 type 3

in A2 type =2*A1

then in A1 type any word you want. the input can be not correct but A2 is OK and A1 blank

yep

but no problem if you type a word between ""

I will try the ""s. That sounds like the best fix for our problems. We are just making simple data tables and need to input labels.

I can't capture the issue with video but y'all have described it well. Will let you know if it works?

Hi again

An other solution :

If you want it works whatever you write, you can also check this box

dc99900fb148b9e262a71c1d070fb1c3

but in this case, you have to always write "=" before writing a command

Sorry, my first screenshot was not good (and can't edit)

@ mathmagic

Finally, there is no problem if we check "requires "=" before commands"

as ALL others spreadsheet..! (Excel, OpenOffice,...)

(i never understood why GeoGebra spreadsheet accept no "=" before commands)

the problem continues. type this:

  • 4 in A1
  • =2A1 in A2
  • "jumera" in A1 enter, enter
  • =3A1 in A3

yep, and if you try

  • 4 in A1
  • =2A1 in A2
  • jumera in A1 enter, enter (without quotes)
  • =3A1 in A3

too much strange things in v6.. perhaps problem with quotes

(for example, write "jumera" in a cell

in the cell, you have "jumera (with only one quote)

and in Algebra view, you have ""+(UnicodeToLetter(34))+"jumera")

huuh huuh

(all this with "need"=" before commands")

The quotation solution was what worked for us! Thanks all!
