Unable to save, unable to login

after a certain period of time using Geogebra desktop version 6.0.489.0 on Windows 10 64-bit I am unable to save my work, to the cloud or download it to my machine. when I log out to log back in, I cannot - I am presented with the Sign-In window as just blank once I input my username and password. when I try to save to cloud, Geogebra displays the dark grey "Saving" prompt but after a while it disappears and nothing is saved.

Please try the new version (v. 493)

I don't know where to get it - every download link on the App Downloads page leads me to V. 489 - the one I already have. I also don't know how to force the desktop app to update.
