Spreadsheet & Virtual keyboard

Hi!

When I try to type something into an embedded GeoGebra-application that includes a spreadsheet it automatically shows the virtual keyboard (blocking some of the view). Even though I am using a laptop which has a physical keyboard (I see that this is quite useful when using mobile devices, but with a laptop it mostly fustrates).

This is quite annoying in my opinnion so is this a feature or a bug?220331c0afb86e1fd6225e53561d460c

Hello H,

Good question. I'm facing the same problem. I have a spreadsheet with dynamic text and when the student starts typing, the virtual keyboard appears, and is superimposed on the student needs to see, generating difficulties both typing and to view the text.

Is it possible, block the virtual keyboard?

I think it's because the appversion is concieved for tablets, that it indeed shows up on every device you use it. When you use it on a laptop, you can easilly close it with the x-icon in the rightuppercorner.

Thank you for the quick replies @marcway and @ccambre

It is easy to close it on the laptop, but if a student needs to fill the spreadsheet with 2 x 7 = 14 values he needs to close it 14 times...So an ability to block it would be nice (or even better an ability to detect if the student is using a laptop or tablet/phone.)

you're completely right. SInce I don't often use the app version on my laptop I didn't notice that it reappeared for every new value, what indeed is very annoying.

Thank you for your feedback. We are currently working on improving the virtual keyboard handling. Hopefully this will also solve your problems.

Hello Alicia,

Thank you for your comments.

I would like to make some suggestions, are only suggestions as user.

1- Use the virtual keyboard could be optional for students who wish. This would be great for us because we could choose to use it or not.

2- Today, the focus is on keyboard. When the student starts typing in a spreadsheet, for example, the keyboard opens with focus on it. The student has no way to disentangle the virtual keyboard. It is a imposition that he use.

Often this typing, only contains numbers without involving special characters, and can be done without the virtual keyboard. He might open or be opened by the student without the focus to remain on it.

3- As has been written, the keyboard opens up the Applet, damaging the display of students and their interaction with dynamic events (texts, sums, movements ...).

4- Perhaps a "virtual keyboard window" window could be created as the "algebra window" opened by user in line just below the Main Menu, no focus on it, and no override the Applet, optional use by student.

I apologize if my suggestions are stupid. I'm not a programmer. But these are the difficulties we face today with the virtual keyboard.

Thank you for the excellent work that the whole Geogebra team has done!
