How do I find the extremum and inflection for a non polynomial. For example,

y = x/sqrt(x^2+1).

Hello,

if you can specify an interval [a,b] where the extremum / inflection point of the function f should be, you can try

    extr=x(Root[Derivative[f],a,b])

and

    infl=x(Root[Derivative[f,2],a,b])

Sometimes you will get undefined results because the root-finding-algorithm in the built-in CAS has still got bugs (IMHO).
