Proximity of Points to a PolyLine
Answered
My students are exploring geometry by aligning and scheduling bus lines to serve our college. I am curious if there is an easy way to determine the average proximity of a set of points from a PolyLine. How do I determine how near the PolyLine is to the set of points?
(This may be more of a statistics operation, since the PolyLine could be considered as a regression line and the proximity approximated by rsquared.)
Any other ways of looking at this situation would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Distance[point, Objekt]
(and the sequence command) allow to create a set of distances.

Thanks to Abakus for the essential code and to M. Clément for the code showing how to iterate the distance for several points.
With your help, this will be an interesting project for my geometry students and hopefully will get them thinking about the efficiency of public transport.
PS: Using
Circle[point,Distance[point, Objekt]]
you will be able to visualize the position of the points on the polyline, which have the minimum distance from the external points.
