The default set for expressing numbers seems to be just two decimal places. I need great accuracy than that. Is there a way of getting four decimal places, for example?

You can set the the number of decimal places as you wish up to 15.
For this in Classic 6 and the apps open the Settings Menu and choose the desired number. In Classic 5 you can do this in the Options menu.
