Italics, sans serif and LaTeX formulas

If sans-serif is used for LaTeX-formulas, the variables are not displayed in italics. Why aren't they?

Why would you expect it to?

We expect it to because any decent equation editor does that. Despite looking at several help pages, I have yet to get variables in italics and numbers in roman. That is absolutely how it should be, but your text box allows only for everything or nothing to be in italics. The inability to make some characters italic and others roman is a good reason to go back to Geometer's Sketchpad.

In legend part of all objets you can write something like $\textit{Var-id}\;\text{IX}$
