Is there a way to use sliders to show exponents as repeated multiplication?

I am trying to figure out a way to show an exponential expression such as "(-4)^5" as (-4)(-4)(-4)(-4)(-4) when I am using sliders for the base and exponent of this exponential expression. I know how to create the sliders to change the initial exponential expression. I wanted to know if there is a way to use the same two sliders to show the exponential as repeated multiplication. So for example, if I changed it to (-4)^7 the text (-4)(-4)(-4)(-4)(-4)(-4)(-4) would appear in text form. Basically, I am trying to get the base of my exponential expression to appear the number of times that my exponent slider is currently on if that makes sense.

starting from the nice file of Noel I added multiplication signs for positive numbers
