ICT network management blocking Properties dialogue box

Hi,

I am part of a team of Suffolk (UK) Maths teachers who are trying to set up some resources to get other teachers in Suffolk to use GeoGebra.

I have run into a problem with the Properties dialogue box. Our Security program (Ranger) will not allow any dialogue box simply entitled Properties to open; indeed the program closes when you try properties. We are not the only school to use Ranger and many have blocked properties because of the damage that can be inflicted through Ofiice programs.

Is there any chance that the box could be renamed "Object properties"? If that was done then Ranger would let it be opened.

Hopefully someone can suggest a solution

Hi ... very strange, but ...

You can may be create an own language-file to use it. I dont know if you can do it with an existing installation. May be you need the source-files.

Have you contacted the ICT network management company yet? They may have a solution. This is really a problem that they should solve to improve their PR and service.

I do not know what properties problems that you are experiencing with the Properties dialog box in Office Programs, but I do know the damage that can be done through input string boxes like in save and search in Office programs. Anyway, the ICT Ranger company should be able to provide a solution to the problem as it is there solution to the Office problem that is causing your trouble. If they cannot do so, it is time to look for a better company (this has been suggested on blogs about Ranger.)

I agree that this is a very strange security mechanism. We'll try to change the title of the dialog in en_UK to help solve this problem at least for GeoGebra.

Calling it Object Properties would be fantastic in en_UK, although I will try to get Ranger people to try to fix this as it causes problems at other times too. (That said, our network very rarely suffers).

Hi,

I'm delighted to report that we can now change the properties and Ranger does not kick us off. Michael Borcherds renamed the Properties dialogue box Object Properties and all is well and two days later our pupils can change properties of objects.

I'm very impressed!
