Ive copied some ggb files from my desktop to my Android tablet and tried to open them with Geogebra (5.0.168) (Android version 4.2.2) but when clicking "open" I get a screen that looks like an internet search machine.

How do I open a local ggb file?

Try opening the .ggb file from the "File Manager" or similar app

To bad i don't have a file manager app :(... I'm beginning to think this is a must have for android. Wondering why android doesn't include one right from the beginning.

The same reason iOS doesn't: there isn't a need for one for the average user. That said, there is a Downloads 'app' that looks at everything in your Downloads folder and allows you to launch stuff from there - assuming you've downloaded your GGB file to there, you should be able to do it via that.

Failing that there are a million file manager apps in the Play Store.

Update. I failed to report that I indeed tried to open the ggb file from the downloads folder, but geogebra didn't opened it. Instead WPS Office tried to... with no success

Assuming that you installed GGC after WPS Office, it sounds like GGC hasn't registered itself as an application that can open GGB files. A file manager may be able to force an "Open With..." but in an ideal world, the app itself would register its intent to open this type of file.

Maybe something to consider for a future version of the app?

Indeed, GGB was installed after WPS (it came bundled with the tablet) and even had one Google play update to GGB yesterday... So no love there

I now successfully opened a downloaded ggb file but, the workaround is a bit convoluted and it is one of many possible ways to do it. Here's is what I've done (in chronological order) :

1) downloaded a ggb file. It appeared on Android's downloads folder as expected.

2) tried to open it but instead WPS Office did. (obviously someone who doesn't have WPS Office *might* not have this problem)

3) long-pressed the file in the downloads folder and shared it to my Dropbox account.

4) when tried opening the file in Dropbox I received a message from Dropbox: "open with..." and had two options: wps and geogebra. Selected geogebra of course.

5) finally the file got opened.

Note: Dropbox now knows what app is linked to ggb files, but this setting is local. The system still doesn't recognizes ggb file because it still tries to open it using WPS Office (when in the system's downloads folder)

The best way is, to install the file manager TotalCommander.

With a long holding of the ggf-file a context menu is open with the point 'open with' and you can select the GeoGebra app.

Please use the new Beta version (works perfectly), the old one don't work.

I tried to open a downloaded file on my android device , too, via a Filemanager (I have ES Explorer ... not as good as it was before).

It does not work!

Do you also use the new Beta-Version GeoGebra Math Apps Beta (Unreleased)https://play.google.com/sto... ?

Version 5.0.286 installed on android use long press in file manager followed by open as text then you should get option to specify geogebra as the application to use.

I downloaded the application (I am currently on 5.0.346.0) a few weeks ago and I think I got to the "open local" dialog once or twice. But the last 10 times I have tried this, I couldn't get to the "open local" dialog. What you describe is a workaround that works fine for me, but as I have said, shouldn't there be an "open local" dialog?
