how to build an "open polygonal line" to use with tool length

I couldn't find how to build an open polygonal line (eg, two adjacent segments), so that the tool "length" provides the sum of the lengths of each segment.
Using the list tool doesn't seem to work.

You won't then need any tool: the length of your polyline is the value displayed in Algebra View.
