How do you quote part of a previous forum message ?

Hello,

With the old forum software using [quote] and [/quote] was a simple way to quote something from a previous message or some other source.

How is that done now ?

Thank you,

John.

You've really confused me now.... in a previous message you seemed to have managed to quote some text. How did you do it ?

You can use [reply] tag when editing BBCode; does not work very well in WYSIWYG mode.

without preview message

WYSIWYG is sort of a preview -- or is it sometimes different from result?

skip a line

What do you mean?

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Zbynek,

Obviously you managed to quote "How is that done now ?". Can you tell us how you managed to have that sentence appear as quoted text ?

I'd be rather surprised if the above statement (reply in brackets) caused that line to be quoted.

Zbynekm, please give us an example of how to quote some text. How do you make this

"I'd like this text to be quoted"

to appear in a quote block ?

Thanks,

John.

@jumera

Now, I see what you did.

Hi Zbynek

[reply] so i have to copy/paste ?[/reply]

grrrrrrr doesn't work

I don't understand. I don't see a quote button to quote your message !!!

"What do you mean?"

See my message here

https://www.geogebra.org/he...

(see pic.png because i can't link to this message in the thread)

(and my pic.png should be here and not in the bottom of the message...)

If i want to skip a line, to make my message more "legible", it is not possible

Thanks

@download0091

Hi mathmum,

you got to have the sentence "so i have to copy/paste ?" shown in a different way... it would work as quote. How did you get sentence to appear in a shaded block ?

Thanks!

Hi Jumera,

look at my previous comment.

In order to create a quote, you need to:

1. click the rightmost icon (the one with the monitor on it) and ensure that the monitor is shown in black colour. This means that you activated the BBCode

2. tag your text with reply, e.g. [ reply ] text [ / reply ] (remove unnecessary blank spaces - I just wanted to show you the syntax)

so i have to copy/paste ?
(yep. you have to copy and paste)

3. send your comment

As far as I understood relaxed if you use BBCode you cannot use the other icons for formatting. So your (our) choice is between WYSIWYG (blue monitor icon and use of icons on top) and BBCode (black monitor icon and tagged text). You cannot mix the two features.

It worked !!! :-)

Thank you Simona, you're my hero!! :-)

You cannot mix the two features.

I'd consider that a godsend. Let's see if the above comes out shaded.

Thank you mathmum.

Mathmagic, I think you used the wrong closing tag. You need to use a slash / not a backslash \

[color=#FF0000]Is there somewhere we can see all (this) forum BBcodes ?[/color]

    chit color doesn't work lol

Oui, just some tags work in BBCode.

I tried yesterday with a dummy post that I deleted, so unfortunately it's no more online.

The following tags don't work in bbcode (these are the one I tried):

code, size (for fonts sizing), color (both hex and with the colour name in English)

It is not very... very... (i don't find the word..!)

And how can i quote AND send a file or a pic from my computer..?

    grrrrrrrrr

And how can i send a link of a precise post in a thread ??

Regarding the link to post: the URL button below the post link to the URL; right-click it, Copy link URL and then you can paste it: like this

Does anyone have a list, even if it is partial, of the bbcode that works ? (other than what can be gathered from the icons at the top of the "leave a comment" reply box)

I quoted this because I couldn't resist quoting something (new found toy!) :-)

Try the others and tell us...

I would but, unlike other posters in this forum, I can neither edit nor delete any of my own posts. If I started trying things out, I'd litter the forum with junk.

Someone who can clean up the mess made by all the testing will have to do it.

Tomorrow? :) hopefully tomorrow in the morning I hope to find a bit of time to check the bbcode tags. Now I had to switch into slave mode and have to do home chores :(
