Please replace z by (x +y ί)
arg(x + y ί  2) = π / 4
abs(x+ y ί  1) = 1
You can also use vectors instead of complex numbers but in that case make sure you never add or substract vector and scalar, because (a,b)c for numbers a,b,c is interpreted as (ac,bc). You can avoid it by using one of the following options:
arg((x, y)  (2, 0)) = π / 4
arg((x, y)  (2+ 0 ί )) = π / 4
